Double signing bolsters defensive options

Another big step has been taken in assembling our squad for next season with the double signing of defenders Mawawu Willems Mampuya and Curtis Jones, each on one year contracts.

Known as 'Mike', Mampuya is a former team-mate of assistant manager Mark Burchill, the pair having played alongside each other in Cyprus for Enosis Neon Paralimni.

A small but pacy right-back, Mike was born in Belgium but has been capped at full international level by the Democratic Republic of Congo.

At 30, he will provide another experienced option in the key defensive area of the field.

Prior to his time in Cyprus, Mike played for a number of second tier clubs in Holland and Belgium including Lierse, VVV Venlo and Helmond Sport.

"Mike is a player I didn't think we'd be able to get, so it's fantastic to attract him to the club," said Mark Burchill.

"He's very fast and will give us an attacking dimension from right back, but he's also defensively good.

"He's a winner and he'll add a lot to the team. We've got a big focus on youth at Livingston, but it's important to add experienced players of the right type and Mike is in that category."

Joining Mampaya in next season's squad is former Celtic and Bristol City central defender Curtis Jones.

Curtis, who'll turn 20 in July, started out at Stockport County, but spent two seasons with Celtic with whom he won the SFA Youth Cup.

The Mancunian joined Bristol City last season after being taken to Ashton Gate by former Celtic coach Willie McStay, featuring regularly for their development squad at under 21 level.

"Curtis is looking for first team football and we expect him to compete for a place in our team with Simon Mensing, Coll Donaldson and Callum Fordyce next season," added Burchill.

"He is comfortable with the ball at his feet and has all the physical attributes you look for in a centre half. We see a lot of potential in him."

Mike and Curtis will formally join the squad later this month when pre-season preparations for the new season get into full swing.
