Important wins for youth sides

Our Under 17 and Under 19 sides kept their SFL Youth Division championship hopes alive with important wins this afternoon.

The Under 19s entertained current league leaders Queen's Park and secured a fine 3-0 home win which was tinged with controversy.

Queen's were arguably the more dangerous side in the first half hour, but they went behind when Andy Russell converted a penalty at the second attempt - his first was saved by the retake was ordered due to Queen's players encroaching.

The deadly Russell grabbed another before half time when the ball fell to him after Frazer Galloway got in behind the Queen's defence and cut the ball back into the penalty area.

In that hectic period before the break, Queen's were also reduced to ten men but the Glasgow side were in the game until the closing stages when a route one punt from keeper Andy Murphy put Andy Russell through on goal and he shrugged off a defender's challenge to loft the ball home for his 21st goal of the season.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Under 17s took a giant step closer to winning their championship with a comfortable 4-0 win over Morton at Battery Park.

They now require one point from their final match, against Montrose at home next week, to secure the title.
