Our Under 19s maintained their unbeaten start to the season this afternoon, beating Berwick Rangers 5-1 despite losing defensive lynchpin Michael Travis to a harsh red card in the second half.
Travis was sent packing by referee after a penalty box melee just after the hour mark, when he was adjudged to have kicked a grounded opponent, who had the ball trapped between his legs.
The decision incensed coach Brian Welsh, but it was a black mark on what was otherwise another good performance and result from the young Lions.
Berwick proved to be a tough nut to crack and it took 28 minutes for the opening goal to arrive, Michael Travis showing his aerial prowess at a set piece to power a header past the visitors' keeper.
Andy Russell made it two from close range five minutes later and by the time Travis headed to the showers we were 3-0 ahead when Dean Cummings tapped in to finish a superb team move shortly after the half time break.
Despite playing for the best part for half an hour with only ten men, our lads continued to control the game.
Dean Cummings scored the fourth goal with a stunning left footed shot which thundered in off the underside of the bar from 25 yards out.
Berwick pulled one back after the Lions defence experienced a rare lapse in concentration, but a hat-trick goal from the outstanding Cummings restored a well deserved four-goal cushion in the final minute.
Livingston: Murphy, Naples, Brady, Aitken, Travis, Docherty, Easton (Co MacDonald), Beaumont, Russell, Cummings, L Gray (Downie).
In the day's other competitive youth action, our Under 17s came out on top by a 3-2 scoreline in a very competitive game against Partick Thistle at Petershill Park in Glasgow.
