Livingston FC celebrated its 10th anniversary during season 2005-06. The club – formerly Meadowbank Thistle – moved to West Lothian in 1995. During it's first few seasons Livingston rose through the Scottish divisions, reaching the Scottish Premier League in 2001 and securing an astonishing third place during its first year “at the top”.
That achievement won Livi the right to a UEFA Cup place, ensuring European football at Almondvale just six years after starting life in Division Three.
Livingston’s biggest trophy wins have been the First Division title in 2000-01 and the celebrated CIS Cup win achieved in March 2004, when the club beat Hibernian 2-0 at Hampden.
That CIS Cup glory was achieved only weeks after the club had entered administration. That situation continued until May 13, 2005 when the Lionheart consortium secured full control. Lionheart had stepped in the previous summer to manage the club and ensure its continued survival while the previous owner’s administration was completed.
Livingston today is undergoing significant change on all fronts. Lionheart is committed to investing in every aspect of the business, both on and off the field. The new owners want to make sure Livingston maximises its potential, ensuring a bigger and more stable club that is managed and run for long-term success.
In a decade Livingston – brought to West Lothian by local businessman Bill Hunter and taken over later by Dominic Keane – has experienced significant success. That success came at a price, resulting in the club’s administration. The task now is to improve stability, invest for the future, and ensure that top-level football is a permanent fixture for West Lothian.
