Richie pleased despite Steaua defeat

Richie Burke was pleased with the way his side performed in defeat against Romanian champions Steaua Bucharest.

A Stefan Scougall goal gave us an early lead at St George's Park, and although Steaua came back strongly with four goals to win, the manager felt it was no disgrace against a side which will soon compete in the Champions League qualifying round.

"It was an interesting exercise for us with three trialists in the squad along with a lot of very young players," said Richie.

"We put out two almost completely different teams in the first and second half and it gave everyone a chance to progress and build on the six days training we've had.

"We've got a new group and it's early days for us so to go up against a side as good as Steaua was always going to be a test, but I thought we acquitted ourselves well.

"They were a class apart but we've got some dynamic players and when we got our forward passing going, we gave them problems at times.

"Overall we're pretty pleased."

Richie and the squad headed to our base at Leigh straight after tonight's game and will train once tomorrow and twice on Tuesday prior to facing Dinamo Bucharest on Wednesday evening.
