An impressive team performance from our reserves saw us come out on top by two goals to nil against an experienced Ayr United side at Somerset Park last night.
The Honest Men fielded former Livi favourite David Sinclair and player-manager Mark Roberts in their starting eleven, while our side was dominated by youth players. Trialist Burton O'Brien was the exception and his steadying influence and creativiity in central midfield was a feature of the match.
During the first half we enjoyed a lot of possession, but it was arguably Ayr who carried the greater goal threat.
They were unable to turn any of their chances into goals though and paid the price in the last action of the half when Jack Downie made a superb run from deep to connect with Connor McDonald's cross and bundle the ball into the net inside the six yard box.
We dominated the second half for long spells, maintaining possession well whilst probing for an opening.
Nevertheless, it took until twelve minutes from full time to secure the points with a second goal, and only after Darren Jamieson produced a miraculous save to stop a Roberts header on the line.
Within a minute of that incident we won a free kick on the edge of the centre circle and showing great awareness, Dylan Easton played in Kyle Lander with a quick free kick and the sub showed great composure to pick his spot from just inside the penalty area.
Livingston: Jamieson, R Gray, McDonald, Donaldson, Fordyce, Trialist, Easton (Wilson 83), Beaumont, Mullen (Lander 67), Downie, L Gray (Tufail 60). Subs not used: Fairman, Hurst
