Suspicious fire destroys turnstiles

A fire in the early hours of this morning (Monday) has destroyed three turnstiles at the Braidwood Motor Company Stadium.

The turnstile block at the south west corner of the Stadium was gutted after the fire broke out at 3.20am despite the efforts of Lothian & Borders Fire Service who attended the scene.

Police are investigating the incident, which is being treated as suspicious.

Chief executive Ged Nixon described the fire as a 'blow' with the new season fast approaching.

"Instances of vandalism have been few and far between at the stadium since it was opened, so the substantial damage sustained to the turnstiles overnight is a real blow," he said.

"The entire turnstile unit has been destroyed and will need to be replaced which is something we could do without with the season a matter of weeks away.

"The indications are that the fire was started deliberately and that's really disappointing."

Police are appealing for anyone who may have any information relating to the incident to come forward.
